PREP TRACK & FIELD: Priest River’s Porinchok improves own school record, wins twice at Ezra Gordon Invite
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 days, 13 hours AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 31, 2026 1:00 AM
COLVILLE, Wash. — Niki Porinchok has done it again.
The Priest River High senior beat out 40 other competitors and his own school record to win the discus throw with a mark of 162 feet, 4 inches — nearly four feet ahead of his previous best and 27 feet better than the next best competitor — at the Ezra Gordon Invitational held Saturday at Colville High.
Porinchok, in addition to his feat in the discus, also beat out 42 other throwers to win the shot put with a new personal best toss of 48 feet, 6 inches, which ranks as No. 9 all-time in school history and was nearly four feet ahead of the runner-up.
Ian Lamanna won the pole vault amongst a 15-competitor field by clearing 13 feet, 6 inches, his second best vault of all-time. The standout senior was also third out of 48 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.76 seconds for the Spartans, which finished seventh out of 16 scoring teams with 40 points.
Senior Westin Caven won the 300-meter hurdles (44.62) and grabbed a silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles (17.83) for Clark Fork, which placed 11th with 18 points.
On the girls side, freshman Vanessa Rogier was sixth in both the long jump (14 feet, 1.75 inches) and the triple jump (28 feet, 1 inch) and placed 12th out of 36 in the 200-meter dash (30.01) for the Lady Cats.
Junior Haylee Jepson was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (59.17) for Priest River.
Priest River will head to the Glenn Wolf Invite hosted by Deer Park High this Friday while Clark Fork is idle until the Lake Pend Oreille Invitational at Sandpoint on April 11.
