KELLOGG — With nearly a decade of coaching experience and entering his third year at the helm, Kellogg golf coach Danny Kenyon believes both Wildcat squads are poised for significant strides this spring.
Joined by assistant coach Nick Furlin, the Wildcats once again look to be among the powers in 3A field.
Returning Talent
The boys return a seasoned core featuring Johnny Stovern, Mason Bailey, Bridger Bowman and Boden Glindeman, giving the Wildcats a strong foundation on the boys' side.
New Additions
Both teams welcome key newcomers expected to contribute immediately.
“We have some new faces on both the boys and girls' squads,” Kenyon said. “The girls will be adding Freshman Rylee Jarvey to the roster and possibly Gretah Angle this week. The boys have lost a few familiar faces but gained Chevy Sharp to our lineup.”
Season Storylines
Kenyon said the evolution of the girls’ team could become one of the spring’s defining developments.
“Some things to watch for this season are the growth of our girls' team, I believe they have a great chance to get back to the state tournament this season for the first time in a few seasons,” he said.
On the boys’ side, the Wildcats are aiming to keep one of the state’s longest‑running golf traditions alive.
“The boys have another great chance to advance to the state tournament this season for the 24th consecutive season,” Kenyon said.
Expectations and Goals
The Wildcats expect steady improvement and meaningful contributions from both veterans and newcomers.
“Our expectations for this season are to continue to get better each and every week,” Kenyon said. “I hope to see our newcomers to step up and help with the success of this upcoming season.”
But as always, Kellogg’s ambitions extend into May.
“As for the postseason, as always, we are looking to bring home a banner and some hardware,” he said.
League Competition
“With the combination of golf being 1A to 3A we have 17 schools with only about seven of them having full boys' teams and five full girls' teams,” Kenyon said. “We also include Bonners Ferry and Timberlake into the mix as well.”
The Wildcats will get their first full look at league competition next month.
“Our April 9th match will give us a good look at all the other schools in the league,” he said.
