Joyce Ann Bock (Shulstaburger/Bruns)
With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Joyce, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 16, 2026, at the age of 78. Born June 16, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, Joyce’s mother and siblings moved to North Idaho at a young age, where she was raised by her stepfather, Milton Booth, and her mother, Verna, along with her three siblings, Linda (Cartwright), Sandra (Eby), and brother John Booth.
Joyce graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1965 and married William G. Bruns the following year, in 1966. She was a loving and devoted wife of 43 years until William died in 2009.
Joyce graduated from Kinman Business School and began working as a teletypist for GTE until 1974, when she and Bill both gave up everything to attend missions training with New Tribes Missions in Baker, Ore., and Camdenton, Miss., and later returned to North Idaho in 1978. Joyce focused on the home and family, raising her two sons until they both graduated from high school, then returned to the workforce. During this time, she helped Bill with secretarial work for Cocolalla Bible Camp and the North Idaho Chaplain’s Corps. She loved serving the Lord, whether witnessing, counseling at the Bible camp, singing at church or sometimes reciting poetry at family events.
In 2010, Joyce remarried Richard Bock, moved to West Virginia, and fulfilled a lifelong dream of serving as a missionary in Togo, West Africa, helping Rick with his mission work until 2017, when she remained in West Virginia until her passing.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Richard Bock; son Edward Bruns; grandkids Jonah and Lily; son Brent Bruns and wife Katy and their children, Florence, Sophia and Tippen; and her sister, Sandra Eby. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bruns; her sister, Linda Cartwright; and her brother, John Booth.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Rathdrum Bible Church, 15127 N. Stevens St., Rathdrum, ID 83858.
