ATHOL — When he stole his brother’s magic kit at age 4, David (DaVinci) Womach didn’t realize that it would take him and his family across the world, win him accolades or even lead him to a passion for full-time parrot training.
But then again, maybe — almost by magic — that was his plan all along.
In fifth grade, DaVinci gave his first performance. By the ninth grade, he had performed at nearly 95% of schools across Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. And before graduating high school, DaVinci was the youngest World Champion in the Pacific Rim Professional Stage Championship.
Now, with over 75 countries and six continents under his belt, including international waters, DaVinci and his family will be headlining Silverwood Theme Park’s magic show, starting this weekend, throughout the park season, performing Thrillusionist and ParrotFX presentations.
“I actually got my first job at Silverwood when I was 17,” said DaVinci. “I was doing 17 shows a week out there. Then, after we finished the Ringling Brothers tour in 2012, we came up here and did our show. We got a call last year, mid-season, that they needed a magician, and then they wanted us back."
A thrillusionist — a term coined by DaVinci — never tells his secrets, so you’ll have to head to Silverwood to catch the acts.
The first show, Thrillusionist, mixes the art of magic and illusion, with a twist of extreme sports and live animal performances, according to DaVinci’s site. Included with the performance is gravity-defying hair and a rockstar outfit — a requirement, said DaVinci.
ParrotFX, the family’s second act, takes on a visual theatrical presentation with parrot education, among other key opportunities. DaVinci notes that the act is tailored to what the birds like to do, allowing them to have fun while performing.
At its core, the acts reflect an opportunity to laugh and be amazed, DaVinci said the family aims to entertain and astonish the crowd.
“We put a lot of effort into creating a show that has a mix of everything,” DaVinci told reporters from Sandpoint Living Local. “I want to emotionally move people, I want them to laugh, cheer, cry and be stunned. They can expect ‘Shrek-Style’ humor that is funny to the adults, but over the kids’ heads, while still entertaining them all. We also work with exotic parrots, so audiences can expect to see them entertaining as well.”
The upcoming show season will be close to home for the Womach family, who reside in Sagle. When they aren’t on the road impressing the world, David and his wife, Jaime (a Sandpoint local), train parrots through the use of behavioral science and showmanship, according to their website. Jaime shared on a recent Silverwood podcast that working with birds who have been given obstinate labels is her main passion.
When not attending school in Sandpoint, David and Jaime’s daughter, Capri, is a main contributor to her parents’ performances, with her debut taking place when she was just 15 months old. For the first four years of her life, according to David, Capri was raised on a cruise ship, as David and Jaime performed at sea.
“When our daughter was born in 2013, we went straight out on the cruise ships for four years,” DaVinci said. “She was raised on a cruise ship, and we would do about 11-and-a-half months a year at sea until just before her fourth birthday.”
Prior to their daughter being born, David and Jaime spent 15 years performing on cruise ships and sweeping away audiences, from tours with Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey, Disney Princess cruise lines, among many other cruise tours, charity events and live television appearances.
The DaVinci crew will be at Silverwood throughout the entire season, performing three to four shows a day. A schedule of their performances can be found at https://bit.ly/4vYgPPf.
