Orr, Gillespie lead Troy at Bonners Ferry double dual

Troy track and field athletes picked up several top-three finishes Monday, April 20, with the hosts and Priest River at Bonners Ferry High School.

Tuesday at the prestigious Top 10 meet in Missoula, Troy freshman phenom Aspen Orr also competed and she did well. In the 400 run, she was 10th in a race that had five AA runners. In the triple jump, she placed seventh in the triple jump with a top leap of 33 feet, 8 inches.

At Bonners Ferry, Orr led the Troy girls with wins in the 200 meters, javelin and triple jump. Orr won the 200 in a personal-best 28.16 seconds, took first in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 96 feet, 5 inches and won the triple jump at 33-3.

Orr also added a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 15-9.5.

Jaylee Meyers added two top-three finishes for the Lady Trojans. Meyers placed second in the 800 in a season-best 2:52.66 and second in the 1,600 in 6:54.30. She also placed fifth in the 400 in 1:15.66.

Jessie Heileson placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 27-6.25. She also finished fifth in the 200 in 30.80 and seventh in the long jump at 12-8.5.

Sylvia Hofer placed fifth in the javelin at 61-1 and fifth in the long jump with a season-best 13-2.5, while Shyanne Manley was fourth in the shot put at 24-0.5, sixth in the discus at 59-3 and 10th in the long jump at 11-2.5.

On the boys side, Michael Gillespie led Troy with wins in the 400 and triple jump. Gillespie won the 400 in a season-best 58.44 and won the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 38-7.25. He also placed fifth in the 200 in 26.39 and tied for fourth in the long jump at 17-6.25.

Kai Brownell added two top finishes, placing second in the 400 in a personal-best 59.07 and winning the 1,600 in 5:25.21.

Ben Powers placed second in the javelin with a throw of 103-1 and fourth in the high jump at 4-8. Jarek Eide placed fifth in the javelin with a personal-best 91-8.

Conner Powell placed sixth in both throwing events, recording a season-best 33-9.5 in the shot put and a personal-best 98-3 in the discus. Daniel Rebo placed eighth in the javelin at 69-0, ninth in the discus at 77-7 and 11th in the shot put at 27-0.5.

Eric Stanton was fourth in the 400 in 1:16.98, 12th in the javelin at 43-7, 13th in the long jump with a personal-best 12-11.25 and 18th in the discus at 45-9.

Trojans performs well at Thompson Falls Invite

Troy’s Aspen Orr swept the girls long jump and triple jump to lead the Trojans at the Thompson Falls Invite on Tuesday, April 21, at Previs Field.

Orr won the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 8.5 inches and added a win in the triple jump at 34-1.5. She also placed second in the 400 meters in 1:07.

Troy also picked up a strong day from Michael Gillespie on the boys side. Gillespie placed second in the triple jump at 37-3.5 and tied for ninth in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 18-0. He also tied for 10th in the 400 meters in 1:05.

Kai Brownell placed fifth in the boys 1,600 in a personal-best 5:14. Brownell also competed in the throwing events, placing 21st in the junior varsity shot put with a personal-best 21-0 and 20th in the junior varsity discus with a personal-best 61-0.

The Troy boys junior varsity 400 relay team of Brownell, Jarek Eide, Conner Powell and Daniel Rebo placed fourth in 57.85.

In the throwing events, Rebo placed eighth in the junior varsity shot put with a personal-best 28-4 and tied for seventh in the junior varsity discus at 78-0. Eide tied for 10th in the junior varsity shot put with a personal-best 26-9, tied for 18th in the junior varsity discus at 62-8 and placed 14th in the junior varsity javelin at 83-11.

Ben Powers placed sixth in the junior varsity javelin with a throw of 99-2 and 12th in the junior varsity discus at 70-4. Eric Stanton was eighth in the junior varsity 400 in 1:22, 18th in the junior varsity long jump at 11-1 and tied for 23rd in the junior varsity javelin at 45-2.

For the Troy girls, Jaylee Meyers turned in three top-eight finishes. Meyers placed fourth in the 1,600 in 6:43, seventh in the 400 in a season-best 1:15 and seventh in the 800 in 3:00.

Jessie Heileson placed seventh in the triple jump at 27-9.5 and 10th in the 100 in 15.30.

Sylvia Hofer placed third in the junior varsity triple jump at 26-3, sixth in the junior varsity long jump at 12-4, 16th in the varsity 100 in 16.83 and 18th in the varsity javelin at 61-7.

Shyanne Manley placed fifth in the junior varsity shot put with a personal-best 24-6.5, sixth in the junior varsity discus at 60-2 and eighth in the junior varsity long jump at 11-10.
