CORVALLIS — The rescheduled Sapphire Twilight Invitational went off without further delay Thursday, and some Flathead Valley athletes shared the spotlight.
Columbia Falls junior sprinter Jett Brandeberry clocked 23.19 seconds in a fast boys 200 the top six places hit personal records, and Brandeberry took third while tying for sixth-best time in Class A.
Corvallis junior Ayden Spencer edged Logan Williams of Florence 22.14-22.17 for the win.
Brandeberry’s teammate Joe West threw 167 feet, 2 inches to win the javelin, the No. 3 mark in Class A.
Meanwhile the Wildcats’ Dylan Owens, a sophomore, hit a PR of 6-2 to win the high jump.
Polson’s David DiGiallonardo won twice Thursday and clocked 1:58.77 in the 800, good for the No. 5 time in A. He won the 1,600 in 4:28.36.
The Pirates’ John Sherry got off a 48-8 shot put, which placed third in the meet and stands sixth in Class A.
Corvallis ran away with the boys team title in the eight-team meet, scoring 144 points. Hamilton (97) and Columbia Falls (91) followed, and Polson was fourth at 57.5.
Hamilton kept the Blue Devils from a sweep by scoring 124 points to win the girls team title. Corvallis has 123; then came Polson (85.5) and Columbia Falls (65.5).
One highlight girls race was the 1,600, where Hamilton’s Annalise Lewis got the best of fellow junior Morgan Delaney of Polson, winning in 5:07.26 while Delaney came across in a PR of 5:08.37. Lewis hit her season-best.
Polson junior Amelia Stene ran the fifth-fastest 100 meters in Class A: 12.90, which placed her second behind Corvallis burner Jillian Huls. Stene also was second in the 200 (26.72, a PR) and another Lady Pirate, Kellyn Nelson clocked 49.05 in the 300 hurdles which puts her sixth in Class A.
Polson freshman Olivia Cottet won the discus with a throw of 110-3.
Nelson also hit a PR in the pole vault, clearing 10-0 while taking third. That’s fourth in Class A; in third is Soli Bullemer of Columbia Falls, who won the event at 11-6.
Bullemer and teammate Maddy Baker went 2-3 in the triple jump as well.
Glacier competes at Missoula quad
MISSOULA — What was scheduled as a dual with Glacier and Missoula Sentinel became a quadrangular that included Missoula Hellgate and Stevensville athletes Thursday. Quite a few hit PRs at the unscored meet.
Stevensville standout Reagan Johnstone, a sophomore, won the girls 200 in 25.82 seconds; the top nine places hit PRs, including Glacier sophomore Addison Brisendine (second at 26.30) and senior Rachel Brannan (third at 27.26).
Brisendine also cleared 5-0, a PR, to win the high jump, and added a victory in the triple jump (32-6).
Johnstone coasted to victory in the 100-meter hurdles, but the 300 hurdles belonged to Glacier sophomore Bailee Dahlman (50.70, a PR).
Allie Krueger (36 feet, 9 inches), Rylee Bigelow (35-5) and Riley Pris led a 1-2-3 Glacier finish in the shot put. Bigelow was also second in the discus.
Glacier also got a win from sophomore Hailey Fiala in the 1,600 (5:33.41, a PR).
On the boys side, Matthew Ahner (16.57) and Kruz Robinson (16.61) PR’d while leading a 1-2-3 Wolfpack finish in the 110 hurdles; Gage Buls was third in that race and in the 300 hurdles, which the Pack’s Liam Palmer won in 40.42.
Glacier’s Jude Sparkman ran a season-best 2:03.03 while winning the 800; the top 12 places in that race belonged to the Pack.
Cooper Pelc, Jack Robinson and Kruz Robinson finished 1-2-3 in the triple jump. Pelc won the triple jump with a mark of 41-0, his best this season. Teammate Will Astle was second in the shot put at 49-4, a season best.
Wolfpack distance standout Owen Thiel ran the 200 and 400; he was second in the 400 at 52.26, behind Sentinel's Kellen Gibson.
Glacier freshman West runs fast 100
MISSOULA — Kyle West of Glacier High ran the ninth-fastest 100 meters in Class AA Friday while competing in the Western AA Frosh Invite at MCPS Stadium.
West’s time was 11.05 seconds. It’s the 13th fastest time for all classes this spring.
Flathead won the girls team title for the meet, which drew six teams (no Helena schools), with 164 points. Glacier had 159. Missoula Big Sky (174) won the boys side with Glacier (132) second and Flathead (65) third.
Glacier’s Ada Thiel ran 3,200 PR: 11.45.35. It was one of three wins she had Friday and the 10th-best time in AA.
