EASTERN WASHINGTON SPRING GAME: Defense shines under the lights for Eastern

CHENEY — The lights were on at Roos Field on Friday night as Eastern Washington football played its annual Spring Game to complete spring practice. The offense and defense battled for two hours on the Red as the sun set in Cheney.
The defense was given a 29-0 lead to start the game and ended with a 56-28 advantage over the offense.
Disrupting the quarterbacks, Myles Mayovsky recorded two sacks in the game and four total tackles. Ben Voigtlaender added one sack in the game, finishing with four total tackles.
Dre Greeley halted an offensive drive, making an interception inside the redzone.
For the game, Marcus Nixon and Messiah Washington led the defense with five tackles each. McKel Broussard, Vincent Macaluso, and Gage Brumfield each recorded three tackles.
Jaxon Branch had a monster game for the offense, hauling in nine catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns. The redshirt-sophomore had touchdowns of 44, 20, and 11 yards.
Nate Bell threw two of Branch's touchdowns while finding Zander Turner for a two-yard score as well. Bell finished the game 17-of-28(60.7%) for 226 yards and three touchdowns.
Jake Schakel completed 12 of 23 (52.2%) passes for 114 yards and one touchdown pass by way of Branch's 11-yard score.
Out of the backfield, Kevin Allen III carried the load for the Eagles, rushing 18 times for 76 yards. 

He added four catches for 12 yards.
The offense successfully executed the hook-and-ladder in the first half of the scrimmage. Bell completed the pass to Allen III, and he pitched the ball to Gavin Allen, who raced 40 yards to put the offense into scoring position. 

The offense scored five plays later on the Bell-to-Turner touchdown.
Cole Pruett had another solid game with five catches for 50 yards. Trenton Swanson made three catches for 30 yards.
Eastern Washington opens the 2026 season against Northern Arizona on Aug. 29 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
