PREP BASEBALL: Post Falls to host, Coeur d'Alene hits road for 6A state regional series

Post Falls (12-9), the 6A District 1 champion and seeded 10th, will host No. 7 Ridgevue (12-11) of Nampa on Friday to open the North Qualifying tournament at Post Falls High as matchups were announced Sunday by the Idaho High School Activities Association.

Mountain View (19-7) of Meridian, the No. 2 seed, will be the third team for the state regional series at Post Falls as the highest-seeded non-district champion qualifier.

Coeur d'Alene (9-8), the District 1 runner-up and seeded 11th, will face sixth-seeded Rocky Mountain (14-11) of Meridian on Friday at 3 p.m. PST at Eagle High. Eagle (18-6), the District 3 runner-up, is seeded third.

Times for many of the regional series are to be determined.

Winners of the four regional series advance to the championship series May 14-16 at Memorial Stadium in Boise.

Sandpoint (20-2), which earned the right to host as the 5A Region 1 champion, is seeded second and will face either No. 5 Hillcrest (17-7-2) of Ammon or No. 11 Idaho Falls (11-11-1) on Friday at War Memorial Field in Sandpoint.

Lakeland (9-12) failed to qualify in 5A, edged out after No. 16 Preston (13-9-1) won its district title to advance automatically. The Hawks were ranked 12th by MaxPreps.com.

Lewiston (18-8), the Region 1 runner-up, is seeded fifth in 5A and was placed in the West Qualifier at Skyview High in Nampa. Champions from each regional series advance to the state championship series at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls.

Timberlake (15-8), the 4A District 1 champion, will play at best-of-3 series at top-seeded Fruitland (19-2-1). The Tigers, which finished eighth in the MaxPreps.com rankings, were the lowest-ranked district champion among the five district champions and had to travel this year.

Winners of each state regional series advance to the championship series at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.

Priest River (14-5), the fifth seed in 3A, advanced to face ninth-seeded Wendell (14-11) at Salmon High on Friday in its state regional series.

Orofino (19-3), the District 1-2 champion, is seeded second and hosts No. 7 Declo (14-8) and No. 11 New Plymouth (12-14) in a state regional series.

The state championship series is at Wolfe Field in Caldwell.
