Troy Lady Trojans celebrate Senior Night with comeback win

The never-say-die Troy Lady Trojans softball team found a way to send its three seniors off with a win Saturday afternoon against Plains.
Troy (10-5) was down to its final nine outs when it went to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning, trailing 3-0, to the Trotters.
The Lady Trojans have developed a reputation for clutch hitting in the 2026 season, scoring 47 of its 172 runs with two outs entering Saturday’s game. The pattern continued when Troy tallied four of its five runs with two outs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The 5-3 triumph was Troy’s second straight. The Lady Trojans have four games left, a pair of doubleheaders this weekend at Ennis and Three Forks, respectively.
“This bunch is capable of a ton,” veteran Troy head coach Keith Haggerty said. “We’ve clinched a spot in divisionals and the girls have put in a lot of time into this.”
Plains loaded the bases with two outs in the first, but Troy got out of the jam when winning pitcher Halle Wallace got the third out on a softly hit flair to first baseman Hailey Dungan.
Troy had runners on second and third in the first, but didn’t score. Plains grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning after its leadoff hitter walked, stole second, took third on a throwing error and scored on a groundout.
Troy’s second at-bat ended suddenly when Claira Folkerts lined into a double play.
Plains made it 2-0 in the third when it loaded the bases with no outs. An infield hit scored a run, but Wallace got out of the jam. Troy put two runners on base in the bottom of the frame, but didn’t score.
Wallace breezed through the fourth inning, but an error in the fifth allowed Plains to take a 3-0 lead.
Then Troy responded with two big runs in the bottom of the fifth. No. 9 hitter Ainsley Huitron sparked things when she lined a double to deep left field.
Catcher Ellah Wallace followed with a double to deep center, scoring Huitron. After two strikeouts, Ellie Borgmann’s single to shallow center scored Wallace. It cut the deficit to one run, 3-2.
Plains threatened in the sixth when it loaded the bases after two outs. But Halle Wallace ended the inning when she got the next batter to hit a soft flair to shortstop Addy Fisher.
Troy’s sixth inning didn’t begin with promise as the first two batters struck out. But Folkerts worked a crucial walk that opened the floodgates for the Lady Trojans. Freshman Aryana Smith came in to pinch run.
Huitron followed with a double to center field to put runners on second and third. Then Ellah Wallace singled to score Smith and Huitron to lift the Lady Trojans to a 4-3 lead. Wallace took second on the throw in and she scored when Addy Fisher singled.
Halle Wallace enjoyed her best inning in the circle when she struck out the side to clinch the win.
The win was somewhat reminiscent of Troy’s first meeting with Plains. At Plains, Hailey Dungan’s two-run homer lifted the Lady Trojans to a 14-13 win. Plains led 8-1 before Troy rallied for a 12-9 lead, but the Trotters came back for a 13-12 advantage.
The Lady Trojans are gunning for a second straight trip to the Class B/C state tournament.
Before the game, Troy honored its trio of seniors, Ellie Borgmann, Halle Wallace and Bostyn Marshall.
The Western B/C Divisional Tournament is scheduled for May 22-23 in Anaconda. The top four teams from the North and South will compete for a berth in the state tourney, which will be May 28-30 in Billings. A top four finish at the divisional ensures a berth at state.
Troy tops Thompson Falls-Noxon
Troy softball used steady offense and a strong pitching performance from Halle Wallace to defeat Thompson Falls-Noxon 8-2 on Thursday.
The Lady Trojans scored four runs in the second and then slowly built on their lead in the later innings, finishing with 13 hits as a team.
Wallace earned the win in the circle, throwing seven innings and allowing just two hits and two runs. She walked one and struck out four.
Troy received production throughout its lineup. Addy Fisher went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, while Allie Borgmann finished 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.
Ainsley Huitron also had two hits and drove in two runs. Claire Folkerts went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Hailey Dungan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Thompson Falls-Noxon scored both of its runs in the fifth inning.
Troy finished with two errors, while Thompson Falls-Noxon had four errors.
