Bonnie Jean McBride was born May 4, 1943, at a naval base in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Jean C. Riggs and Arthur F. McBride. She spent her early years in New Jersey and New York, and some time in Lander, Wyo. In 1968, she married Charles Morganstean, a forester, and moved to Oregon, then to Colorado. They finally landed in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1980 and lived there until her passing.

As a teenager, Bonnie loved to roller skate and skated competitively. At 15, she was welcomed in by a foster family, the Nickesons, where she lived on a ranch and loved to ride horses. After getting married and having children, she fell in love with being a homemaker and loved cooking and baking. She also enjoyed camping.

Outside the home, she loved to serve and was heavily involved in keeping her church in the loop by corresponding with missionaries. She also had a heart for troubled young people and worked for Youth for Christ, helping pregnant teens, and later worked with those who suffer from addiction through The Altar Church.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Charles Morganstean; her children, Mike Morganstean (Holly), Sherri Manes (Alfredo), Pam Herman (Michael); her stepmother, Rachel McBride; her brother, Tom Johnston; her foster sister, Doris Zube; as well as six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jean Riggs and Arthur McBride; her foster parents, Burrell and Evelyn Nickeson; her brothers, Bruce and Arthur McBride; and her foster brother, Steven Nickeson.

There will be a memorial at The Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho or Good Samaritan Rehabilitation.
