Columbia Falls mountaineer Anders Soyland along with Liam Byrd and George Robbins did a ski traverse from Many Glacier to the Lake McDonald Lodge Trailhead May 2 and 3.
They skied over Piegan Pass and then over Logan Pass and did the Floral Park Traverse, dropping down the Sperry Trail to the Going-to-the-Sun Road. They reported at least 250 trees down from the Sperry Chalet to Crystal Point.
Soyland said there was surprisingly good snowpack up high, though the Big Drift wasn’t very big on the Sun Road.
Park plows were working beyond Triple Arches on the Going-to-the-Sun Road this week. The hard closure for hikers and bikers is now at Road Camp, which is just below Big Bend and well into the alpine terrain, about 3 miles from Logan Pass.
The Two Medicine Road reopened to the boat dock, but the campground will be closed for the season due to construction and utility upgrades.
