Plains golf teams enjoy two fine days in Eureka

Plains golf coach Lisa Brown is excited for her team as the season heads into its final month. Brown and her full crew of Horsemen and Trotter golfers were set to play in the Gary Thompson Invitational at River’s Bend outside of Thompson Falls Tuesday, the final regular season action with the Western B Divisional tournament in Anaconda April 11-12.
“It looks to be a great week of golf heading into the divisional tournament,” Brown said. “I am very excited that we will be taking a girls and a boys team to divisional this year. It has been a while since we have had enough kids to do that.”
Scoring teams at the Class B level require four scoring players per squad, whereas three are needed in Class C. Either number is sometimes difficult for small schools in Montana to meet, including for schools in this area.
Plains golfers readied themselves for the rest of what lies ahead, including the Thompson Invite and the Western B, by playing in the Tobacco Valley Tournament, a two-day meet played at the Indian Springs and Wilderness Club courses outside of Eureka last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Originally scheduled for April 15-16, the Tobacco Valley tourney was moved to last week’s dates due to weather.
As has often been the case this spring junior Jarett Weeks led the Horsemen by winning seventh individually among the boys. Freshman Jackson Revier, who is also on the Plains track and field team, shot an 82 on the challenging Wilderness Club course Wednesday for his best round of the season.
Brown said the two-day Eureka tournament was a very good experience builder for her young team heading into the stretch run, also praising the efforts of Pierce Danielson, Mila Rivinius, Jaycee Carr and Tia Bellinger in Eureka.
