The few, the proud, the very productive.
Coach Jason Colyer’s Hot Springs Savage Heat don’t have a plethora of athletes at their disposal, but the ones they do have tend to be very productive, as they once again proved at the Bigfork Invitational track and field meet Saturday.
Behind the ever-improving Ben Aldridge, who won the 300 meter hurdles in 42.18 seconds, took second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 4.5 inches and placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (in a personal best time of 16.85 seconds), the Heat boys scored 32 team points to finish tied for sixth in team scoring with District 14C rival Superior.
With senior Kara Christensen winning the discus (with a fine throw of 115-5) and placing fourth in the javelin (100-2) and fifth in the shot put (30-2.5) to lead the way, the Savage Heat girls finished with 22 points and placed ninth in team scoring.
Kora Hensrude won fourth in the shot put (31-1.5) and just missed placing in the javelin with a seventh place effort in that event.
The 400 meter relay team of Hensrude, Callie Cano, Alisha Jakabosky and Christensen won sixth place in that race.
Back with the Heat boys, Chase DePoe won fourth place in the 300 meter hurdles in 43.75 seconds and tied for seventh place in the high jump.
The 400-meter relay of Aldridge, Brayden Colyer, Bill DeTienne and Samson Jakabosky ran down third place points in that event.
The Savage Heat are scheduled to compete in the KLH Invitational at MCPS Stadium in Missoula Saturday.
