LOCAL WATCH: Gove wins 100th Washington Open Invitational

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Local PGA professional Jeff Gove, representing The Idaho Club, shot a 10-under-par total gross 206 (70-69-67) and birdied in a one-hole playoff to capture an individual title at the 100th Washington Open Invitational held Monday through Wednesday at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
Gove, who cashed in on $7,000 of the total purse for his efforts, beat out Craig Ronne of Emerald Valley Golf Club (Creswell, Ore.) in the playoff for his first win in the event since 2012. Gove also won the Washington Open, hosted by the Pacific Northwest Section PGA, in 1995. Gove's 5-under-par 67 third-round was the best round of the entire tournament, which featured a total of 168 competitors, including 123 professionals.
“The 100th Washington Open is a milestone event and celebration of a century of competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments," PGA Head Professional at Tacoma Country and Golf Club, said in a news release. "Over the past 100 years, this event has brought together the best players in the Pacific Northwest. Tacoma C&GC is very proud to honor and host the rich history of this tournament and players.”
The Pacific Northwest PGA Section includes over 1,400 PGA members and PGA associates in Washington, Oregon, North Idaho, Western Montana, and Alaska.
