PREP TRACK & FIELD: Priest River, Clark Fork girls among top two at middle school district championship meet

SPIRIT LAKE — Outside of a contribution from seventh-grader Meredith Raynor in the 4x100 relay, the Clark Fork Middle School eighth grade girls, competing with just three athletes, finished second out of nine scoring teams as they compiled an impressive 78 points at the Middle School District Championship held Friday at Timberlake High.

Gemma Wood was first out of 30 in the 100-meter dash (13.68) and beat out six other competitors in the 100-meter hurdles (17.13) to claim two golds on the day. Kourtney Rogier (2:50.53) added a first-place finish out of 13 in the 800-meter run and was second in both the 400-meter run (1:09.64) and the long jump (13 feet) for a total of three individual medals. Grace Thompson capped off the Lady Cats' all-around performance with three podium finishes of her own, beating out 18 other competitors to win the shot put (35 feet, 6.5 inches) to go along with a second-place finish in the high jump (4 feet, 7 inches) and a third-place finish in the discus (76 feet, 5 inches) to boot. 

Beating out Clark Fork in the eighth grade girls division was Priest River, who was led by Layla Lamanna. Lamanna beat out 13 competitors to win the long jump (13 feet, 0.25 inches) and contributed a third-place finish in the 400-meter run (1:09.92) and a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (30.80). Paisley Maas placed second in the 800-meter run (2:54.75) and was third in the long jump (11 feet, 10.5 inches) while Brady Barton collected a second-place mark in the discus (81 feet, 5 inches) for the Lady Warriors, which scored 80 points in total en route to a district title.

In eighth grade boys action, Priest River's Jaxsen Stark was second in the long jump (17 feet) while Clark Fork's Casey Lane was second in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.29).

In the seventh grade girls division, Clark Fork's Raynor beat out 15 other competitors to win the long jump (14 feet, 6.5 inches), was second in the 200-meter dash (28.81) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (14.00) while fellow Lady Cat Rylan Cody recorded a second-place finish in the shot put (26 feet, 2.5 inches). Evana Hinshaw won the shot put for Priest River with a toss of 27 feet, 1.5 inches.

Rounding out the top performances on the day, Clark Fork's Kiptyn Jorissen, competing in the seventh grade boys division, beat out 16 competitors to win the long jump (13 feet, 7.5 inches) and registered a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (20.50) and a third-place finish in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches). Priest River's Brayden Claar, Torin McLaimtaig, Gunner Filtzer, and Ryan Connelly added a win in the 4x200 relay (2:06.43) in addition to numerous top finishes of their own.
