A $3,000 donation from the United Way of North Idaho is helping expand access to free books for young children in Boundary County through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
The contribution supports more than 300 local children, from birth to age 5, who receive high-quality, age-appropriate books each month at no cost to their families, promoting early literacy and strengthening family engagement across the community.
The program launched locally in 2023 and operates through a partnership between the Boundary County District Library and the Bonners Ferry Eagles.
“Through this program, children from birth to age 5 receive a high-quality book mailed directly to their home each month, helping families build home libraries while strengthening parent-child engagement and early literacy skills,” said Sara Welch, early learning coordinator for United Way of North Idaho.
The Imagination Library, founded by Dolly Parton, is a global program dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by providing free books to young children. In Boundary County, the program continues to grow through community partnerships and local support.
