Wolfpack Theatre Presents ‘The Outsiders’
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 1 hour AGO
The Wolfpack Theatre Company will present a gritty stage production of “The Outsiders” May 7, 8 and 9.
Set in a town divided by social class, “The Outsiders” follows Ponyboy Curtis, a teen trying to find where he belongs. After a violent clash between Ponyboy’s Greasers and their rivals, the Socs, Ponyboy and his friend Johnny are forced to run away — facing fear, loss, and the consequences of their actions.
Adapted by Christopher Sergel, this stage version stays true to the classic novel by S.E. Hinton and its main ideas: wanting to belong, dealing with unfair divisions between people, and learning to understand others. The play brings the characters’ emotions right in front of the audience, making their struggles feel real and immediate. Along the way, acts of courage and sacrifice reveal the deeper humanity within both groups, challenging the idea that people can be easily divided into “us” and “them.”
“When I read this adaptation, I knew it could be something special,” said director Dwight Camillucci. “It reminds us that even in a divided world, empathy can bridge the distance between us. My hope is that this production invites the audience to look a little closer, listen a little more carefully and hold onto the things that connect us.”
Fans of the book will recognize key scenes and lines that have been kept in the script. The story still centers on Ponyboy’s point of view, while also showing the importance of the relationships between characters, especially Ponyboy and Johnny, and the bond between the Curtis brothers.
“This cast is truly fantastic. They have embraced the line ‘stay gold,’ a reminder to remain true to ourselves and hold onto the good in life, even when things are difficult,” said Camillucci. “These young people have a deep understanding of the themes and context of the play and present it so well. The process has been extremely rewarding, and I am so proud of the work we have done.”
The cast includes Sophya Allred, Trevor Hammer, Ben Weddle, Zach Nases, Brett Pilon, Tregan Blades, Anda Wahl, Megan Mikelson, Grace Miller, Kaylin Stein, Isabelle McKoy, Kyla Turley, Micah Pichardo, Lucy Melnick Syme, Hilda Weber, Gabriella Leighty and Eli Sanderson Strutz as Ponyboy.
The tech crew includes Abigail Haley, Fenyx Colby, Christina Eddins, Eric Haley, Norah Huff, Taylor Grover, Chloe Franklin, Bosley Wakefield, Brennen Anderson and Cameron Burnham.
