Eureka Public Schools' latest effort to find funding for work on its campus narrowly failed after the ballots were counted Tuesday by Lincoln County election officials.

According to the preliminary final results on the county Election Results page, 1,021 voters said no to the bond while 898 voters were in favor of it.

The Eureka Public School Board called an election for a 25-year, $22.5 million bond for the purpose of building a new elementary and middle school building, bus barn and Vocational Career and Technology Education building.

If the bond would have passed, a home with a taxable value of $500,000 would have seen annual taxes increase by approximately $332 a year.

In 2017, an $18 million bond was proposed, but failed.

In the school trustee election, Leilani Swan got 89 votes, Stephanie Leduc-Vanderyacht got 55 and Kaitlin Haugen got 50 to claim the three seats in Trego School District 53.

The rest of the elections were not held because not enough candidates filed to create contested races. Those who did file to run won by acclimation.

For Libby School District, Alida Snow, Walter Snyder and Ronald A. Miller claimed seats.

In Troy School District 1, Lori Damon won the open seat while Chelsea Franke won the Yaak/McCormick seat.

In Yaak School District 24, David Henderson won the open seat while Pamela Wilson won the open seat for McCormick School District 15.

For Fortine School District 14, Barbara Gwynn and Kathy Derrow claimed both seats. For Eureka School District 13, Bri Van orden and Meg Barnes claimed both seats.

Elections for the rest of the county seats and other races will be held Tuesday, June 2. Primary absentee ballots are scheduled to be mailed today, May 8.

Prospective voters who haven’t registered can still sign up to vote.
