Harold "Rusty" VanOverbeck passed quietly at his home on April 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving daughters.

Born Oct. 7, 1945, in Los Angeles, California to Harold Sr. and Gloria VanOverbeck (Juell), Rusty grew up surfing the waves at Manhattan Beach. He would later trade those waves for the beauty of Western Montana, followed by a meaningful chapter spent in Aurora, Colorado raising his girls.

Ultimately, his draw to the Big Sky Country brought him back to Frenchtown, where he lived out his “Grandpa Farm” dreams and finally to Libby, where his journey would end.

A print typesetter by trade, Rusty enjoyed his life outside of work golfing, dabbling with home-brewed beer, traveling with his beloved dog, Hurley, and spending time with family and valued loved ones. His later years were spent traveling to the southwest where he enjoyed the freedom and solitude that the Arizona desert brought him.

Though he was unable to travel in recent years, he had fond memories shared with those he encountered that brought him “Smiles and Smiles to Go” from his lawn chair in the backyard overlooking the Cabinet Mountains.

Rusty is remembered by treasured friends he met on his travels, friends who became family, and family that brought him laughter, joy and love.

No services will be held per Rusty’s wishes. Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg and Riddle Funeral Home of Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
