Whitefish takes two from Libby; Loggers hold off Eureka

Whitefish handed the Libby Loggers baseball team a pair of lopsided wins over the last week in Northwest Class A action.

Tait Orme drove in four runs, Liam Krezowski and Reed Boyer combined on a four-inning three-hitter Tuesday and Whitefish made short work of Libby, 14-1.

Hunter Rooney walked and scored in the second inning for Libby, briefly tying the game at 1-all. Whitefish responded with seven runs in that inning and six in the third.  

Saturday, the Bulldogs claimed a 14-2 win. Whitefish scored three runs in the first inning and scored in four of the next five innings.

Libby scored both of its runs in the third inning and finished with three hits. Holzer went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Miles also had a hit and drove in a run, while Ian Thom added a hit.

Dalton Cannon started for Libby and pitched three innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits. James Woody, Blake Michalkiewicz and Noah Gillespie also pitched for the Loggers.

Libby opened the week May 1 with a high-scoring, 14-12, win over Eureka, jumping out to a 6-2 lead after the first inning and holding on late. The Loggers added one run in the third, three in the fifth and four in the seventh.

Eureka scored four runs in the first two innings, added four in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh as their rally was shut down.

Bransen Holzer helped lead the offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, triple, three RBIs, four runs scored and three walks. Ian Thom went 1-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Boe Miles added a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while Tanner Wolfe had a double, an RBI and a run. Kale Riddle also drove in two runs and scored twice.

On the mound, Miles pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs, six earned, on eight hits while striking out six. Dalton Cannon finished the game with one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.

The Loggers (5-7) were at Polson Thursday. The game ended after press time. They are set to host Bigfork Saturday at Lee Gehring Field at 1 p.m.
