Shoshone News-Press | UPDATED 3 months, 3 weeks AGO
Full Name: Shawn Wehr
Age: 55
Political Affiliation: Republican
Office Sought: Shoshone County Sheriff
Family
I come from a family with five generations of roots in Shoshone County. I am married, with five adult children and six grandchildren. After retiring from the Los Angeles Police Department, I moved to Pinehurst to be closer to family and back to the area I’ve always considered home.
Education
Bachelor’s degree. Military training includes Army Ranger School, Airborne School, EMT-I, and leadership courses. I also completed over 3,000 hours of extensive LAPD training, including Leadership School (West Point), POST Management/Lieutenant School, and advanced command and tactical instruction.
Professional and Civic Experience
I have 34 years of combined military and law enforcement experience. I served as an Army Ranger (combat veteran) and spent nearly 30 years with the LAPD, retiring as a Lieutenant II. My experience includes patrol, gang and drug enforcement, FBI task force operations, internal affairs, counter-terrorism instruction, and command roles. I currently serve as Sheriff of Shoshone County. In addition to my professional career, I have been involved in youth mentorship as an assistant scoutmaster, youth football coach, and soccer referee.
Top Priorities
My priorities are to continue building on the stability and leadership that have already been put in place these past few weeks, while moving the Sheriff’s Office forward in a positive direction. I am focused on improving training, addressing staffing challenges, and continuing our efforts to bring the jail back into compliance. In a short time, we have made positive strides in morale, retention, and budget oversight, and I will continue working to strengthen those areas while ensuring we remain fiscally responsible, while maintaining the level of service our citizens expect and deserve.
Decision-Making and Fiscal Responsibility
I take fiscal responsibility seriously. I will continue to maintain oversight of spending, work closely with county leadership, eliminate waste, and pursue outside funding.
Community Representation and Accountability
I will continue to be visible, accessible, and accountable to all residents. Every community in the county deserves equal service. I am committed to transparency, professionalism, and earning the trust of the people I serve.
