On Tuesday morning, smoke filled the inside of the Polson Bay Golf Course Pro Shop. In the chaotic moment, Pro Shop director Cameron Milton described himself as a chicken running around with its head off, until the Polson Fire Department arrived and extinguished the small fire.
Fire Chief Kevin Straub said the department was dispatched to a report of a fire at the Polson Bay Golf Course at 7:50 a.m., and upon arrival, they found a light fixture on fire, along with a portion of the carpet inside the office of the Pro Shop. Drippings from the plastic covering of the fixture was the cause of the carpet fire.
Straub said they quickly extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher. Nine personnel from the city department were dispatched to the scene, along with Polson Rural Fire District, EMS and Polson Police Department.
Straub reported that the Pro Shop clothing suffered smoke damage, with minimal damage to the building. He said there was no effect on Bunkers Bar and Grill.
Milton explained that he was thankful for the fire department's less than five-minute response to the scene and appreciated Straub and Assistant Fire Chief Adam Reed’s “fantastic job.”
“It could have been way worse without the quick response from the fire department,” Milton said.
While the shop was closed Tuesday, Milton planned to get the Pro Shop operational as quickly as possible and expected it to be open again Wednesday. The Pro Shop will be closed today.
Milton confirmed there is smoke damage to the clothing, which he insures through the Pro Shop.
