LOCAL NOTES: Locals sweep Long Bridge Half Marathon, 10K, 5K titles

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint High assistant track & field coach Alex Peters left everyone in the dust as he beat out 229 other competitors to win the Long Bridge Half Marathon with a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes, 56.41 seconds (5:39 per mile) on Saturday, May 9.
Peters, a former Post Falls High and Whitworth University standout, won the race by nearly 10 minutes. Sandpoint's Emily Erickson was sixth overall and the first overall female with a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes, 46.02 seconds (6:56 per mile).
Sandpoint's Clay DeMastus won the 10,000-meter race in 39 minutes, 57.10 seconds (6:27 per mile) while Troy Gunter of Sagle won the 5,000-meter race in 22 minutes, 52.38 seconds (7:23 per mile).
The Long Bridge Half Marathon is USATF-certified course as of 2026, meaning individuals who meet specific time standards can qualify for larger events such as the New York City Marathon. Those who register for and complete the Long Bridge Half Marathon can earn a Long Bridge Duathlon medal if they also complete the 1.76-mile Long Bridge Swim, set to be held Saturday, Aug. 1.
