A public workshop on the 2026 City of Whitefish Community Wildfire Protection Plan Update will be Wednesday, May 27 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Whitefish City Hall, Council Chambers, 418 E. Second St.

The city of Whitefish has contracted SWCA Environmental Consultants to work in collaboration with municipal, state, and federal land management agencies to develop the plan.

A Community Wildfire Protection Plan is designed to assist the city and property owners in mitigating wildfire risk by assessing at-risk areas and recommending measures to reduce those risks. The public plays an important part in crafting fire mitigation recommendations.

Workshop topics include public input on concerns, actions to reduce risk, and how the city can assist in wildfire preparedness. People are encouraged to attend. Involvement ensures the plan meets the community's needs, helping to create effective strategies for protecting homes and resources from wildfires.

Additional goals and objectives of the Whitefish Community Wildfire Protection Plan include improving wildfire resilience and adaptation; accessing grant opportunities and funding; developing actions and recommendations to mitigate risks to people and property; providing resources, information, and actionable planning for conducting fuel mitigation on private and public lands; and implementing a process to track project progress.
