Lady Cats measure up, dominate Trojans
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 4 weeks, 1 day AGO
By any measure, the Superior Lady Cats tennis team is having a great season. Coach Rick Berreth appreciates the efforts his talented team has given so far, but he would still like to better know what his girls will be going up against in postseason play soon.
He gets that chance to really see how his eager young Cats match up with the best Tuesday, May 12, at high noon at Fort Missoula against Valley Christian. “The upcoming match against Valley Christian will be a challenging yardstick, a measure of where we are,” Berreth said. “Valley is annually one of the top B-C teams in the west.”
This season for sure, the Superior Cats are looking like one of the other better racket-slinging, tennis-ball bashing crews in the Western B-C ranks, and a worthy opponent for Valley, as they continue to chalk up impressive results.
In their latest day of dominant winning play in Troy May 4, Berreth said the Cats and Troy extended the match, played the equivalent amount of matches in two duals, and the Lady Cats came away winners in 11 of the 12 matches played.
Josie Crabb, Perri Jasper, Kamryn Church, Camdyn Atkin and Charlotte Allard all served up wins in both of their matches, and the Cats’ top doubles team of Mady Neu and Alyza Wickham also won twice in Troy.
Berreth thought that Neu and Wickham defeating Troy’s No. 1 doubles team, a stunning revenge win, was the highlight. “That was probably the biggest surprise of the day,” he said. "The freshmen doubles team winning 6-1, 6-1 after losing 4-6, 4-6 in Superior less than a month ago.”
