Both teams played in the Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament last weekend in the Spokane Valley. The Black team advanced in a play-in game early Sunday and then lost in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, the Yellow Team advanced in penalty kicks in a thriller over Spokane Shadow Opsahl before losing in the final and taking second place. The 16G Sting are sending a team to Boise this weekend to compete in the Directors Cup. They played in the U19 gold bracket; all games were played at Plantes Ferry Sports Complex in Spokane Valley. Friday night, the Sting beat Flathead Valley United SC 07/08 2-1 win. Blake Wise scored a PK goal and Rowan Wyatt scored the winning goal for the Sting. Saturday evening, the Sting won 2-0 over Glacier Surf 08/09. Dixon Reed scored the opening goal with an assist from Pax Longanecker. Longanecker scored the second goal with an assist from Reed. The semifinal game on Sunday morning was against Flathead Valley United SC and was a 1-0 win by Sting. Jacob Melun scored the lone goal. In the championship game, Sting beat Glacier Surf SC 3-1 win. Sting goals were scored by Gus Penrose, Dixon Reed with a cross from Jacob Shaporda, and Brooks Judd. All goalkeeping was shared between Landon Beinkmeier and Grant Johnson.     Courtesy photo The Sting FC 2016 Boys Black soccer team reached the finals in the Gold/Silver Bracket at the Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament last weekend. On Saturday, the Sting beat the Spokane Shadow SJP Valley 2016 4-2 with goals scored by Jackson Martin, Leo Leferink, Emmett Cowan and Lincoln Triebwasser. Later that day, the Sting beat Spokane Legacy Soccer Academy boys 2016 7-6. Goals for Sting were scored by Isaac Clegg, Emmett Cowan, Jackson Martin with two goals, and three goals by Oliver “Ollie” Lundy. The Sting played three games on Sunday. They beat the Spokane Shadow SJP Valley 2016 again for the quarter-final match, 4-2 with goals by Ollie Lundy, Jackson Martin and Emmett Cowan. The semifinal was against the team’s other half, the Sting FC 2016 Boys Yellow team, ending with the Black team winning 10-4. Goals for the Black team were scored by Isaac Clegg and Ollie Lundy and two goals each for Emmett Cowan, Jackson Martin, Leo Leferink and George Duke. In the U10 final against Spokane Shadow Van Der Lawson Boys 2016, the Sting lost 6-1. Isaac Clegg scored for the Sting.

    Photo by KAYLEAN MAY The Sting SC 2013 Girls soccer team took first place in the 35th annual Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament hosted by the Sting Soccer Club last weekend. The Sting beat the Indie Chicas 4-0 on Friday, tied the Sandpoint Strikers on Saturday 0-0, and had a 9-0 victory over Glacier Surf 2013G later Saturday. The Sting faced Sandpoint again in the championship game on Sunday and won 4-0. Tryouts for this Sting team will be held May 20-21. Visit www.stingsc.com for more information.     Photo by KARI HYNES The Sting SC 2011 Girls Academy soccer team wrapped up its GA Aspire League season last week, finishing undefeated and securing a spot in the GA Aspire Nationals in June. In their final league match against Spokane Shadow, Olivia Hynes scored Sting’s lone goal. The Sting also competed in the Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament last weekend, opening tournament play with a 1-0 loss to Indie Chicas. Sting responded Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 win over Flathead Valley United 07/08. Brightyn Gatten, Presley Moreau and Payton Brennan each scored for Sting, while Kate Keaggy added an assist. On Sunday, the Sting closed out tournament play with a 6-0 victory over Glacier Surf 10/11 Blue. Brightyn Gatten led the way with two goals, while Harper Overland, Kate Keaggy, and Kylie Lorona also found the back of the net. Payton Brennan contributed an assist. The girls now turn their attention to the Idaho State Cup semifinals in Boise, where they will face IFFDC 2011G. Pictured is Payton Brennan, soaring for a header.
    Photo by ANASTASIA SAHM The Sting SC 2016 Boys Yellow soccer team over the Mother’s Day Weekend made it to the semifinals at the 35th annual Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament at the Plants Ferry Sports Complex in Spokane Valley. Saturday morning the Sting tied the Kittatas Valley Junior Soccer Assoc. BU9 3-3. Sting goals were scored by Atlas Lepley, Elijah Cine, and Jaxson Matheney. Saturday afternoon the Sting lost 8-3 to the Spokane Shadow Academy B16 Van Der Lawson. Goals were scored by Atlas Lepley, Drew Fulton and Elijah Cline. Sunday morning the Sting beat the Spokane Legacy Soccer Academy B16 Olsen 8-4 with goals scored by Atlas Lepley (2), Arius Bush (1), Gideon Lee (1), Jaxson Matherney (3), and Elijah Cline (1), bringing the Yellow team to the semifinals with an interclub match against the Sting SC 2016 Boys Black Team. The match ended with a Yellow team loss of 10-4 with goals scored by Jaxson Matheney (2), Atlas Lepley and Thomas Ely. On Wednesday, May 6 the Sting SC 2016 Boys Yellow team lost a league game against the CDA BVB U9 7-1, with the Sting goal scored by Jaxson Matheney.
