Graduation season begins with SKC powwow

Graduation season is here, and gets off to a colorful start May 15-16 when Salish Kootenai College holds its Graduation and Honoring Powwow at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center in Pablo. Grand Entry is at 7 p.m. Friday and 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday.
The college commencement is 11 a.m. June 6, also at the Joe.
The first high school diplomas go to Ronan and Charlo grads on Sunday, May 31. Ronan High School seniors walk at 2 p.m., and Charlo grads don cap and gown at 3 p.m.
St. Ignatius High School honors graduates with commencement ceremonies at 6 p.m. June 5.
Polson High School seniors will graduate at 10 a.m. June 6 at Linderman gym.
Arlee High graduates will receive their sheepskins at noon June 6. The school’s Graduation and Social Powwow begins at noon June 5 and ends at 3 p.m.

Ronan Council hears police funding request, renews lease
At their meeting last Wednesday night, the Ronan City Council discussed a proposal from Ronan Police Chief Rob Jacobson to add two more full-time police officers to achieve 24-7 patrol coverage for Ronan, thereby minimizing the city’s reliance on county officers.
Chainsaw virtuosos return to Ronan for annual Rendezvous
Big pickups dragging trailers pulled into the parking lot of the Ronan fairgrounds and started unloading people, kids, and then toolboxes, an array of chainsaws, pop-up canopies, and a cooler or two. The chainsaw carvers were back in Ronan last week.
Polson High grads advised to "brave the waves"
Polson seniors marched in from all corners of Linderman Gym Saturday and took their seats. The “National Anthem” and an honor song by the Badger Tail Drum set the tone for commencement.
