Conditions were good for throwing the javelin at Glacier High Thursday, and Wolfpack junior Daniel Pederson has the mark to prove it.
Pederson threw 199 feet, 9 inches to win the event at Glacier’s dual with Class A Columbia Falls; he led a 1-2-3 Wolfpack finish with fellow junior Eli Barney (180-8) and senior Vaughn Ronakov (173-7). That trio now sits first, third and fifth in the AA rankings; Pederson’s throw is the best for all classes.
Glacier swept the meet handily; the boys won 119-26 and the girls 93-43.
The Wolfpack’s Kyle West, Gabe Ackerly and Will Astle had big days. West, a freshman, swept the 100 and 200 and his 100 time of 10.93 seconds sits eighth in AA. Astle PR’d while winning in both the shot put (53-9, fifth in AA) and discus (153-11, eighth).
Ackerly ran season bests while winning the 1,600 (4:34.48) and 3,200 (9:56.25).
Another top mark belonged to Spencer Hodge, who went 13-9 in the pole vault, a PR. That sits sixth in AA.
Columbia Falls’ Cash Short won in the 800 meters and the Wildcats swept the relays, but the rest of the boys events went to Glacier athletes.
Owen Thiel won the 400; Matthew Ahner won the 110 hurdles and teammate Kruz Robinson won the 300s. Blake Pittman took the high jump. Freshman Rhodes Gladden took the triple jump.

In the javelin, Lucy Holloway (119-10, fifth in AA) and Rylee Bigelow (118-6, seventh) finished 1-2 for Glacier. Holloway also won the long jump at 16-5 on criteria over Columbia Falls’ Peyton Ross.
Bigelow won the discus and Allie Krueger took the shot put, throwing one inch farther than Columbia Falls’ Rachel Ruther (36-5, a PR).
Glacier won 13 of 16 events completed; 3,200 results were unavailable.
Maddy Barker (high jump), Ross (9-0 in the pole vault) and Hazel Matson (100 hurdles) had the wins for the Wildkats; Rachell Ruther finished second in the shot put, but her mark of 36-5 sits fifth in Class A.
