The youngsters claimed a lot of podium spots at Flathead’s Last Chance Quad track and field meet held Thursday at Legends Stadium. Not many of them did so in their regular events.

Flathead swept the team titles. The Braves scored 131 points, followed by Whitefish (59), Browning (39) and Libby (34). The Bravettes piled up 122 points to 79 for the Whitefish girls, 40 for Browning and 18 for Libby.

The most impressive mark on the girls side came from Flathead freshman Brynn Kossman, who threw 37 feet, 5 inches to win the shot put. That mark sits eighth in Class AA.

Flathead senior Naomi Miller went a personal-record 17-1 inch to win the long jump, and freshman teammate Madison Leighty was second with a PR of 16-7. Junior Anna Bain completed a 1-2-3 Bravette finish.

Emery Eash, a sophomore, ran a season-best 2 minutes, 25.33 seconds to win the 800.

Whitefish sophomore Ginger Bergland, known for her hurdles prowess, tied with freshman teammate Barrett Clark in the pole vault. Both cleared 8-9. Bergland also won the 200 meters Thursday. Teammate Anna Boysen, who won the 100 meters, was second.

The Bulldogs also saw sophomore Chantry Krack clear 5-0 to win the high jump and freshman Kendall Dye win the 1,600 in 5:126.75. Both marks are PRs.

On the boys side, Braves junior Brodyn DeShaw hit a PR of 2:08.52 to win the 800; Carson Thorne, DeShaw and Ryker Zuffelato gave Flathead a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,600.

Myles Zimmerman (43.60) won both the 300 hurdles and the triple jump for the Braves; he PR’d in the latter. Sophomore Kellen Mouat won the 400 for Flathead, which also swept the relays.

Whitefish’s Braylon Dunn, a sophomore, swept the discus, javelin and shot put. His javelin throw of 151-8 was a PR.

Libby’s Tristan Andersen didn’t compete in the javelin but did win the long jump (19-6.5) and high jump (6-2; just four Class A athletes have gone higher).

Browning’s River Racine claimed the 3,200 in a season-best 10:03.78, and teammate Robert Miller won the 110 hurdles. Royce Mad Plume threw 144-5 in the discus to place second and move into the top 10 in Class A.
