Cruisin’ back in time with Lost in the ’50s

I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | May 15, 2026 1:00 AM
SANDPOINT — Dig out your poodle skirt, grab a leather jacket and your high-waisted, straight-legged jeans and come get Lost in the '50s as classic rides, great music and fun take over for the weekend.
Kicking off the action is a “cars and coffee” event from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Idaho Club.
Continuing the fun is the classic car parade through downtown Sandpoint in the evening, followed by a street dance for local youth on Second Avenue near Jeff Jones Town Square following the parade, and a “reunion night” concert featuring house band Rocky & the Rollers at the Bonner County Fairgrounds. On Saturday, classic cars will fill downtown as the annual Lost in the '50s car show fills the streets of Sandpoint, and legendary singer Chubby Checker will headline Saturday’s show at the fairgrounds.
The car parade begins at 6 p.m. Friday, with hundreds of classic and vintage cars staging at Sandpoint High School starting at 4 p.m. before making their way down Division Avenue to Church Street, turning left onto First Avenue and then west on Cedar Street.
Following the parade, a street dance will be held next to Jeff Jones Town Square.
Plenty of memories and music will fill the Bonner County Fairgrounds on Friday as Lost in the '50s holds its first “reunion night” concert featuring the best songs from the dozens of legendary artists who have graced the stage at past Lost in the '50s concerts. Performing will be house band Rocky & the Rollers.
"We are going to take you through years of music from all the years of original guest artists," Lost in the '50s organizers said on their social media pages.
Attendees will have a chance to win prizes and limited-edition items, including free T-shirts available only at Friday’s reunion concert.
"This will be a fun night of memories and music," the organizers said.
The fun continues Saturday with the car show taking over downtown Sandpoint, starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing to 4 p.m., with cars filling downtown streets. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m., with the registration booth located at the corner of First Avenue and Cedar Street.
On Saturday, Chubby Checker and the Wildcats will headline the Lost in the '50s concert and are guaranteed to have the crowd dancing and having a blast.
A Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame icon, Checker has 36 hit records and is the first artist to have a single top the charts twice. Among his biggest hits are "The Twist," "Pony Time" and "Let’s Twist Again."
"Dick Clark once said that 'the three most important things that ever happened in the music industry are Elvis, the Beatles and Chubby Checker,'" '50s organizers said in a social media post. "For sure they made the way for many."
