High-scoring Libby softball team winners of five straight

The Libby softball team used a late rally to edge Polson before sweeping Browning in a doubleheader to improve to 11-4 on the season.

Libby opened the week with a 14-13 win over Polson on Tuesday, May 5, then rolled past Browning 15-0 and 18-0 on Saturday, May 9.

Against Polson, the Loggers were tied 13-13 going into the bottom of the eighth inning before pushing across a run for the walk-off win. Libby finished with 18 hits. At one point, Libby trailed 13-7.

Tessa Purdy led the offense, going 4 for 6 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Hadleigh Wood added three hits and four runs, while Rossi Baney went 3 for 5 with a triple, two RBIs and a run. Weslee MacDonald also had three hits, two RBIs and two runs while Leah Rusdal had two hits, a home run and three RBI.

Rusdal finished with five total bases, and Baney had five total bases.

Carmen Kohler earned the win in the circle, pitching seven innings and allowing eight runs, four earned, on nine hits. Maddie Willis also pitched one inning for Libby.

Libby returned to the field Saturday and shut out Browning twice.

In the opener, the Loggers scored seven runs in the first inning, seven in the second and one in the third to win 15-0 in three innings. Libby finished with nine hits and did not commit an error.

Leah Rusdal led the offense with two hits, a double, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Maddie Willis drove in two runs, while Weslee MacDonald also had a triple and two RBIs. Tessa Purdy had a double and drove in a run, while Dakota Allen tripled and notched an RBI. Macy Foss had a triple as well.

MacDonald earned the win, pitching two no-hit innings with two strikeouts. Willis pitched one scoreless inning in relief and struck out three.

In the second game against Browning, Libby again started fast, scoring seven runs in the first inning, seven in the second and four in the third for an 18-0 victory.

The Loggers collected 13 hits. Macy Foss went 3 for 3, all doubles, with three RBIs and three runs, while Carmen Kohler went 3 for 3, also all doubles, with three RBIs and three runs. Settera McGreevy-White added three hits with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

Jayva Boehmler had two hits and scored a run, while Addisyng Gassett doubled.

Kohler started and earned the win, pitching one scoreless inning. Foss and Gassett each added a scoreless inning in relief as the Loggers combined to allow just one hit.

Libby plays in the Butte Tournament this weekend. Friday, the Loggers will tangle with Lockwood and Miles City. Saturday, they'll play Park and Columbus. Libby wraps up the regular season May 19 at Ronan.
