Libby Loggers boys tennis edges Columbia Falls

The Libby Loggers tennis teams split a match Saturday against Columbia Falls.

The boys claimed a 4-3 win while the girls were defeated, 6-1.

Scoring wins for the boys team were No. 2 singles player Zander Gassman and all three doubles teams.

Gassman dropped the first set, 7-5, to Pablo Perles, before rallying in 6-2 and an exciting, third set, 7-5 win.

Libby’s top two doubles teams won in three sets. At No. 1, Isaac Lamere and Blaise Erickson won the opener, 6-2, before a 3-6 loss to Jack Austin and Blake Perry. But Lamere and Erickson won a hard-fought, third set, 6-4.

At No. 2, Cole Sunell and Jon Cano dropped the first set, 6-4, to Wildcats’ Jackson Bowlecky and Gabe Plevel before coming back to win 6-3, 7-5.

At No. 3, Libby’s Jaxon Huni and Elry Hall won a straight-set match, 6-4, 6-4, over Asher Kirk and Javen Thomas.

In the girls match, No. 4 singles player Zoey Fosgate won in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, over Campbell LaCasse.

Tuesday, at Bigfork, the Loggers boys team topped the Vikings, 4-3, and lost to Columbia Falls, 6-1.

The girls squad lost both matches, 5-2.

In the boys competition against Bigfork, Teague Thompson won a straight-set match over Rye Peterson. Libby won all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Isaac Lamere and Blaise Erickson, the No. 2 team of Cole Sunell and Alex Reatz and the No. 3 team of Dayton Hardy and Jon Cano were all winners.

Against the Wildcats, the No. 3 doubles team of Thompson and Colby Iliff were straight-set winners.

For the girls, against the Valkyries, No. 4 singles player Zoey Fosgate won in straight sets while the No. 2 doubles team of Ashlyn James and Harmony Keller won.

Against Columbia Falls, No. 2 Augie Bailey won in straight sets while Fosgate won a forfeit.

Libby hosts Polson at 11 a.m. Saturday in the final regular season match.

The divisional tournament will be held May 21-23 in Polson.
