Libby Loggers varsity baseball claims Senior Night win

The Libby Loggers high school baseball team won its home finale of its first season, 2-0, over Noxon, Tuesday evening at lee Gehring Field.

Senior Boe Miles pitched a complete game gem, striking out 14 while allowing only three hits and two walks.

Bransen Holzer delivered an RBI triple in the fifth to break a 0-0 deadlock. Holzer came home on a sacrifice fly from Kale Riddle to make it 2-0.

Seniors who were honored included Miles, Dalton Cannon, Brody Gilmore, Kale Hall, Holzer and Miles.

Libby (6-9) play Corvallis Friday in Whitefish and Ronan Saturday in Columbia Falls. They finish the regular season May 19 at Columbia Falls. Play-in games for the state tournament are set for May 21-23, but a schedule is not yet known.

Noxon fell to 3-12.

Libby dropped three games last week, falling to Whitefish, Polson and Bigfork. The Loggers are now 5-9 on the season.

Libby opened the week with a 16-1 loss to Whitefish on Tuesday, May 5. The Bulldogs scored one run in the first inning, seven in the second to take a commanding early lead.

Libby finished with three hits. Bransen Holzer, Hunter Rooney and Dalton Cannon each had a hit for the Loggers. Rooney had a double, while Cannon drove in Libby’s lone run.

Kale Riddle started for Libby and took the loss, allowing eight runs, two earned, on five hits in two innings. James Woody and Ian Thom also pitched for the Loggers.

Libby returned to action Thursday, May 7, falling 7-0 to Polson.

The Pirates finished with 10 hits and one error, while Libby had four hits and three errors.

Tanner Wolfe, Hunter Rooney, Kale Hall and Kale Riddle each had a hit for the Loggers. Hall had Libby’s lone extra-base hit with a double.

Boe Miles pitched six innings for Libby, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits. He struck out one and walked two.

The Loggers closed the week Saturday, May 9, with a 5-3 loss to Bigfork.

Libby took an early lead with one run in the first inning but Bigfork answered with two runs in the top of the third. The Loggers scored two more runs in the bottom of the frame but wouldn't score again in the game. The Vikings added two more runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth.

The Loggers finished with four hits. Ian Thom, Dalton Cannon, Kale Hall and Kale Riddle each had a hit. Cannon and Thom each had RBIs.

Blake Michalkiewicz started for Libby and took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in four innings. Cannon pitched three innings in relief, giving up one run on two hits while striking out two.
