Troy, Libby plan Memorial Day events

In Troy, VFW Post 5514 begins its Memorial Day preparations with the annual cleanup Saturday at Milnor Lake Cemetery.

It begins at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome and it’s recommended to bring rakes and other lawn care equipment.

VFW Post 5514 will hold its traditional Memorial Day services Monday, May 25, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The first will be at the Milnor Lake Cemetery at 11 a.m., followed by the Troy City Cemetery at noon and the Boyd Cemetery in the Yaak at 2 p.m.

Attendees may bring chairs.

In Libby, the American Legion Auxiliary Austin Reedy Unit #97 will be conducting its annual Memorial Poppy Distribution Day Saturday, May 16. Auxiliary volunteers will be distributing poppies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ace Hardware, Empire Foods, Family Dollar, Rosauer’s and Save Rite (west).

Also, the American Legion Auxiliary Austin Reedy Unit #97 will host the annual Angel Dedication ceremony at Libby Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23.  

Then, at 1 p.m. Monday, May 25, the Lincoln County Veterans Memorial Foundation and the Libby VFW will hold a Memorial Day program at Riverfront Park at the Memorial statue.

Members of the community are invited to share some of their thoughts, memories, family stories and even advice about their own Memorial Day.

Chairs will be provided.
