Today, May 16, the Litehouse YMCA is hosting its first free water safety event in recognition of National Water Safety Month.

The event will take place at Litehouse from 1 to 4 p.m.

“In our community, education and water competency are truly lifesaving skills, and we are working to raise awareness and provide resources to families,” said aquatics director Kayla Ireland.

The event is being held in partnership with Bonner County paramedics, Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and Selkirk Fire Rescue & EMS. Activities throughout the event are aimed at helping families and individuals feel confident and safe around water, according to Ireland.

Activities and resources will be tailored around swim lesson evaluations, life jacket fittings, water safety demonstrations, and basic CPR and first aid education.

“This event provides a valuable opportunity for community members to connect with local first responders, build essential safety skills, and take an important step toward preventing water-related accidents,” Ireland said.

The event is open to all ages.
