Petty Ann Runge was born to Edna and Floyd Runge on July 31, 1941, in Omaha, Neb. She passed away May 7, 2026, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Petty’s family relocated to Coeur d’Alene in 1946, where they established a furniture business. She enjoyed her childhood playing in the fields and woods in her neighborhood and spending time with friends. She participated in Bluebirds and Campfire Girls activities, enjoyed riding horses and experienced the carefree childhood of the 1940s and 1950s. Petty attended Bryan School and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1959. She was in the Vikette’s drill team and a cheerleader her senior year. Following high school, she attended the University of Idaho and joined Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After college, she and a friend headed for the “big city” of Los Angeles, Calif., where she worked for the Chamber of Commerce. Her friend remained in California, while Petty returned to Coeur d’Alene. In 1960, Petty was crowned Diamond Cup Queen of the Diamond Hydroplane Races held in Coeur d’Alene.
Petty married Voyne Gleason on May 12, 1962, and resided in Hayden, Idaho, with their two children, Jimmy and Patti, for 64 years.
Petty’s personality was spunky and fun. She was known for her lively and joyful personality. She was deeply loving and devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cheered with great enthusiasm at her children’s sporting events and her grandson’s hockey games. She was known for her vibrant sense of humor and infectious laugh. She was always friendly and made new friends instantly, no matter where she was.
Her hobbies included crocheting, playing cards (notably "Runge thing") and watching Western movies. She was a member of the "Circle of Friends" Book Club. She volunteered for many years at Kootenai Medical Center. She was actively involved in organizations such as the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile, where she served as Chaplain and held other officer positions. Her favorite places included relaxing at the beach in Hawaii while visiting her granddaughter, wintering with Voyne in Arizona and spending time with family and friends at their cabin along the Coeur d’Alene River.
