POLSON — The weather was an issue at Saturday’s ABC Invitational track and field meet, but athletes like Ginger Bergland, Colby Minton and Morgan Delaney squeezed in some highlights.

Bergland, of Whitefish, won her dual with Stevensville standout Reagan Johnstone in the 300 hurdles, crossing in 45.71 seconds. That was after she and Johnstone finished in a dead heat in the 100 hurdles, both clocking 15.59. Both are sophomores.

Minton, also of Whitefish, zipped through the boys 400 meters in a personal record of 49.88. He sits third in Class A in that event.

Delaney, the junior standout for the host Pirates, ran a PR of 4:59.90 in the 1,600 meters. That’s the No. 2 mark in Class A behind Billings Central phenom Addison Kegel; Delaney and Kegel are first-second in the 3,200 rankings.

Just 11 of 17 boys events were completed Saturday; Frenchtown scored 58 points to finish first in the team standings, just ahead of Bigfork (53) and Corvallis (52.5). Columbia Falls and Hamilton scored 40 each.

The girls completed nine events, and Corvallis led a glut of teams with 43.5 points. Hamilton (42) was next, and Polson and Columbia Falls were next at 41. Havre had 40.67.

Girls highlights included Havre’s Macy Brandon winning the 400 in 57.99, the No. 2 mark in A. Brandon, who owns the fastest 100 meters time, also helped the Blue Ponies win the short relay in 49.36. Only Corvallis (49.05) has run faster this season.

Corvallis was led by wins from Bea Paxson (shot put) and Ella Varner (triple jump). Frenchtown’s Blake Hardy clocked 12.71 to win the girls’ 100 meters; Havre’s Ela Harber was second at 12.87.

Columbia Falls’ Soli Bullemer cleared 11-6 and won the pole vault on criteria over Hamilton’s Aubrey Korst.

On the boys side, David DiGiallonardo won the 1,600 decisively in 4:19.70. It’s his fastest time within Montana’s borders this spring.

The Pirates’ Dion Litchtenberg took the triple jump.

Bigfork’s Austin Savik won the 110 hurdles in 15.67; Tamret Savik cleared 6 feet, 2 inches to win the high jump. Alex Ochs gave the Vikings another win by a PR of 20-10.75 in the long jump.

Frenchtown’s Henry Griffin threw 177-2 to win the discus; Whitefish sophomore Braylon Dunn threw 155-6, the fifth-best mark in Class A.

Griffin’s teammate Jacob Kurpius took the javelin (159-6).

Tristian Archuletta gave Columbia Falls a pole vault sweep, getting 11-6 to win the boys event.
