STATE TENNIS: Sandpoint's Rickert claims third straight girls singles title

Sandpoint junior Pepper Rickert won her third straight state girls singles title, beating Brinley Nelson of Hillcrest 6-1, 6-1 in the 5A championship match at the Boise Swim and Racquet Club on Saturday.
Rickert, who finished 25-0 this season and is 73-0 for her high school career, advanced past Kaia Kessler of Hillcrest 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals after winning her first two matches of the weekend on Friday by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Sandpoint’s girls finished fourth.
Century of Pocatello won the boys team title, while Hillcrest, of Ammon, won the girls title.
6A: Coeur d’Alene junior Grant Johnson bounced back from a loss in the semifinals to finish fourth in boys singles at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise.
Johnson, who finished runner-up in mixed doubles last year, beat Austin Spieker of Eagle in three sets in the consolation semifinals before falling in straight sets in the consolation championship.
Boise won the boys team title.
Eagle won its second straight girls team title.
3A: Parma's boys and Fruitland's girls claimed team titles at Ridgevue High in Nampa.
