Bessie Ochoa, 81

Bessie Ochoa, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep Feb. 28, 2026, after a courageous 10-year battle with stage four colon cancer that, in recent years, brought additional health challenges. Through it all, she never lost her positive spirit, her strength or her unwavering support for the family she loved so deeply.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie O. McDaniel, and son-in-law Brent McDaniel, of Post Falls, Idaho; her son, Ron Ochoa, and grandson Aidan Ochoa, of Northern California. She also leaves behind her beloved “pet grandchildren,” Sage Sydney and Georgie Boo Boo, Brent and Stephanie’s dog and cat, who miss their babysitter very much.
Bessie lived a life rooted in kindness, curiosity, fitness, sparkle and joy. She loved her bling and never went anywhere without flawless makeup, styled hair and perfectly manicured nails. In fact, she had her hair and nails done the day before entering Schneidmiller House hospice care. That was Bessie — always carrying herself with grace, pride and style.
She was generous with her time, encouragement and wisdom. Many who took the time to sit and talk with her walked away with what she lovingly called her “Sage advice.” More than anything, Bessie will be remembered for the way she made people feel seen, valued and loved. Her heart was always open, her smile always bright and her eyes always shining. And she did all of this beautifully.
Both in California and later in Post Falls, Idaho, Bessie inspired many through her commitment to fitness and healthy living. Until she was no longer physically able, she faithfully attended classes at Garden Plaza, Peak Fitness and Anytime Fitness. She also walked 4 to 5 miles every day. When people asked why she exercised so much, she would smile and say, “Move it or lose it.”
Music brought her tremendous joy, especially cumbia music, which was her favorite during Zumba classes with her daughter in California. She leaves behind countless memories, lifelong friendships and a family who adored her deeply.
Rather than mourn her passing, Bessie wished for those who loved her to celebrate the fitness journeys, music, laughter and love she shared with so many throughout her life.
And every morning, her daughter, Stephanie, still makes sure she looks her best — because she would never want to let her mother down. Bessie raised her better than that
