OTHELLO — A Desert Aire man was booked on suspicion of vehicular assault and DUI after he allegedly hit a car he was attempting to pass, according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Andres Gutierrez, 18, was booked following a collision May 15 on West McManamon Road about three miles north of Othello. Gutirrez was driving east at about 2:30 p.m. when he attempted to pass another car, according to the ACSO release.

Gutierrez saw an oncoming car and attempted to return to the eastbound lane, the ACSO release said, but while doing so he hit the car he was attempting to pass. That caused the driver of the other car to lose control and leave the roadway; the car rolled and the driver sustained critical injuries, the ACSO release said.

The injured driver’s condition was not available at press time.
