There are major changes at Libby Dam for those planning to go camping or use picnic shelters.

According to a recent press release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Seattle office, officials announced that Libby Dam will transition to recreation.gov for all campground reservations and day-use picnic shelter reservations fee payments beginning Friday, May 22.

There are no fees to use the sites prior to Memorial Day weekend or after Labor Day weekend and they are first-come, first-serve.

Under the new system, all campsites and day-use shelters at Libby Dam will be reservable through the digital platform Memorial Day weekend) through Sept. 6, Labor Day weekend. Camp sites at Alexander, Blackwell Flats and Dunn Creek are $10 per night. All three day-use shelters in Souse Gulch are $40 per day.

Visitors can reserve campsites at 8 a.m. four days before their desired date. Booking for day-use shelters is now live, and day-use shelters can be booked six months in advance.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to complete their reservations through recreation.gov before arrival because there is no Wi-Fi or cellphone coverage at the kiosks in the campgrounds. Camping reservations may only be made up to four days in advance of visitors’ stays.

Visitors can check camping availability and make reservations by the following methods:

Online: Visit Libby Dam and Lake Koocanusa - Camping | Recreation.gov to go directly to the “Libby Dam and Lake Koocanusa” webpage.
