Alan Wayne Rebeck, 79

Alan Wayne Rebeck, 79, Coeur d'Alene, passed peacefully April 25, 2026. Alan was born to parents John and Evelyn Rebeck (Toth) in 1946 and was raised in Tottenville, Staten Island, N.Y., with his younger brother, Ken. He was the first from the Rebeck family to attend college, obtaining Bachelor’s Degrees in both Electrical Engineering and the Arts from Rutgers University.

After successfully completing ROTC and jungle training, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps and awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam in 1970. Following his discharge, he worked for several years for the CIA, stationed in the Philippines.

Upon entering private industry, he worked for Hewlett-Packard, Transtector and R.O. Associates, becoming a worldwide expert in lightning protection and grounding, contributing to several international standards, and receiving the honor of IEEE Life Member. One of his favorite professional accomplishments was conducting site audits on the three NASA deep space telescope sites in California, Australia and Spain.

His hobbies included playing saxophone, sailing, motorcycling, camping, racquetball, dancing and creative writing. He was a master of languages, speaking German and Spanish fluently, reading and writing Japanese at a middle-school proficiency, and studying Russian and Hindi. He traveled to all 50 U.S. states, over 50 countries and six continents in his lifetime.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed living in the beautiful town of Bayview, Idaho, and was a beloved member of the community. He also treasured working at Silverwood Theme Park and conversing with the patrons.

Alan is survived by his brother, Kenneth Rebeck; nephew Erik Rebeck; niece Rafia Rebeck; ex-wife Shelley Rebeck; three sons: Daniel, Adam and Jesse Rebeck and their wives, Destiny, Tonia and Caitlin; four grandchildren: Wesley and Gabrielle Rebeck and Kyndal and Kyren Mesenbrink; and great-granddaughter Amberlynn Opal.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID 83835, with a reception following.
