Bulldog baseball sweeps Browning after stormy Sapa-Johnsrud

Tait Orme drove in eight runs across two games as Whitefish completed a doubleheader sweep of Browning with 15-0 and 17-0 victories Monday at Smith Fields.  

Orme drove in five runs in the opener for the Bulldogs (13-7). He singled home two in the first inning, doubled in another run in the second and blasted a two-run homer in the third.  

Whitefish scored seven times and added three more in the second. Reed Boyer and Gavin Knapp each collected multiple hits, while Joaquin Gonzalez added an RBI single. 

Gonzalez earned the win after allowing one hit and striking out four over three innings. Whitefish finished with 13 hits and did not commit an error.  

Matthew Augare recorded Browning’s (0-12-1) lone hit.  

Whitefish carried the momentum into the second game, scoring 12 runs in the first inning on the way to a 17-0 victory.  

Drew Queen highlighted the opening frame with a three-run single, while Logan Stewart, Orme and Vance Schwaiger also drove in runs.   

The Bulldogs added three more runs in the second before tacking on another in the third.  

Ashtyn Mintz earned the win after allowing one hit and striking out four over three innings. Whitefish again played error-free defense and turned a double play.  

ON FRIDAY evening at the Sapa-Johnsrud Invitational at Smith Fields, Whitefish was bested by Hamilton 5-1. Most of Saturday’s Invitational games were stormed out.  

Hamilton (16-2) grabbed control in the fifth inning after Boedy Tadvick singled home the tying run before Jackson Lubke followed with an RBI double down the right field line. Whitefish (11-7) had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after an error brought home a run.  

Connor Quinn and Landon Ekin each collected two hits for the Broncs, who finished with nine hits and worked six walks at the plate. Jude Widmer stole two bases and added an RBI, while Bridger Huddleston also drove in a run.  

Logan Stewart allowed two runs over five innings for Whitefish, while Finn Ryan recorded the Bulldogs’ lone hit. 

The Bulldogs close out the regular season against Polson May 20 at Smith Fields at 4 p.m.
