Fresh off an important 4-2 win over rival Valley Christian in a dual match May 12, coach Rick Berreth’s Lady Cats are primed and ready for the Western B-C divisional tournament in Missoula Friday and Saturday.

Berreth said his players gained valuable seeding position for the Western B-C tourney with their strong efforts against Valley Christian.

Berreth said the freshman doubles tandem of Mady Neu and Alyza Wickham got things started with a comeback behind big serving and improved volleys for a 3-6,6-3,(10-7) victory.

Singles players Josie Crabb, Perri Jasper and Kamryn Church all contributed to the match win over Valley. Crabb defeated Valley Christian’s No. 1 player 6-2, 6-3 and Jasper scored a decisive 6-0, 6-4 win over Ella DeGroot in the No. 2 singles match.

Berreth said that Church completed the very successful day for Superior tennis by registering wins over Mission and Troy players.

Another match Saturday with Granite was cut short due to rain and snow.

Looking ahead to the divisional tournament, Berreth is optimistic. “Missoula Loyola should be considered slight favorites as they should get the top seed in both singles and doubles,” he said. “While Superior could use their depth for a chance for an upset. Valley Christian will be the youngest team in the tournament and should be a factor.”

Berreth added that Troy and Mission are the other teams set to play in the Western B-C this week.
