Heat seeking more track action at Western C

The Hot Springs Savage Heat track and field team is on a heat-seeking mission heading down the season’s stretch run, looking to collect all the honors they feel they are owed.
Putting together another solid performance from both sides of the squad, the Savage Heat girls won second and the boys third at the District 14C meet in Missoula Friday and Saturday. The Hot Springs girls scored 113 team points and the boys 92 in Missoula.
Coach Jason Colyer and the Savage Heat athletes who qualified now set their sights on the Western C divisional meet, also in Missoula this Friday and Saturday. Place winners from the Western C, and pre-qualifiers in events from the regular season, will then gather in Laurel May 29-30 for the State C meet.
“We had a pretty solid district meet,” Colyer said. “With what few numbers we have, we are strong competitors. At divisionals we are looking for another strong outing from the boys and the girls might just surprise us again.”
No surprise, it was the Kara and Kora show again for the Hot Springs girls last week as Kara Christensen and Kora Hensrude led the way as they typically have all season.
A senior, Christensen won the discus, took second in the 400 meters and third in the shot put, and fourth in the javelin, while Hensrude, a junior, won the 100 meters, took second place in the 300 meter hurdles and 200 meters, and fourth in the shot put and in the discus.
Christensen joined Callie Cano, Alisha Jakabosky and Dakota Slonaker to win the 400 meter relay.
Ava Bouquet won the 3200 meter run and placed fourth in the 800, Jakabosky won third in the javelin and the discus, and Eleanor Massey placed third in the 800 meters to complete team scoring for the Hot Springs girls.
For the Savage Heat boys, Chase DePoe, Daniel Slonaker and Ben Aldridge were all individual event winners.
DePoe long jumped a lifetime best 20 feet, 1 inch to win that event, in addition to winning second in the high jump, third in both hurdles races and sixth in the javelin, Slonaker won the 200 meters but finished second to teammate Aldridge in the 100, and Aldridge won the 100 meters, finished second in both hurdles and fourth in the long jump.
Samson Jakabosky took fifth in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200, and Bill DeTienne fifth in the javelin to round out scoring for Hot Springs in the District 14C meet.
