The Plains Trotters claimed the conference championship and the Horsemen won third in team scoring at the District 7B meet in Eureka Saturday.

Plains teams now advance to the Western B divisional meet in Missoula Friday and Saturday with athletes hoping to earn themselves berths into the State B meet, also in Missoula May 29-30.

Plains coach Jesse Jermyn gave the Trotters their flowers for the beautiful run they made to the 7B crown. “We knew we had a shot at winning heading in and the girls went out and performed very well and got it,” he said. “They have been doing great things all season and kept up the good work in Eureka.”

It was a total team effort from the girls as the Trotters hit the opposition hard, especially in the hurdles and middle distance runs in the 7B meet.

Senior Kalli Tuma was a triple-event winner for the Trotters, winning the 400 meters, the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Jermyn said Tuma’s 100 meter hurdles time also met the State B standard and guarantees her admission into the State B in the event regardless of how she performs in the race this week at the Western B.

Hadyn Rice had another productive meet for the Trotters, winning second in the 100 meter hurdles and javelin, and running legs on both winning relays, Katelyn Subatch cleared 4-10 to win the high jump and took second in the 300 meter hurdles, Annika Ercanbrack won the 1600 and 3200 meters, Reese Meredith won second in the triple jump, fourth in the long jump and fourth in the 400 meters, and Jayden Cook placed third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump to complete individual scoring for the Plains girls.

Subatch, Tuma, Meredith and Rice teamed up to win the 400 meter and 1600 meter relays, both in new record-setting time for their squad.

Matthew Thurston and Cooper Meredith went one-two in both hurdles races for the Plains boys, with the 110 hurdles being decided by a photo-finish in Thurston’s favor.

Meredith did come back to win the triple jump, joining John Owen Jermyn (800 meters), Simeon Costner (1600) and Greg Tuma (shot put) as individual event winners for the Horsemen in Eureka. Meredith also placed third in the long jump.

Riley Geenen claimed second place in the javelin and Jackson Revier third, Kalem Ercanbrack won fourth place in the 1600 meters and fifth in the 800, Benjamin Carter took third in the discus and Eddie Siebert fifth in the 400 meters to round out individual scoring for the Horsemen.

Meredith, Tatum, Siebert and Thurston teamed up to win the 400 meter relay and Tristan Allen, John Owen Jermyn, Tatum and Siebert joined forces to place second in the 1600 meter relay.

One of the leading distance runners in the Class B ranks, Cord Greer did not run in Eureka and has not competed in several weeks. Coach Jermyn said Greer plans on running this week but has already pre-qualified for the State B meet in the 1600 and 3200 meters, as has John Owen Jermyn.

A freshman, Costner has pre-qualified in the 3200 but not yet in the 1600, a race he plans on running this week in the Western B.
