Man injured in shooting near Spirit Lake

A man was hurt in a shooting near Spirit Lake on Wednesday night.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, the incident began as a domestic dispute between an adult male and an adult female about 10:30 in the 28000 block of N. Highway 41 in the unincorporated area of Kootenai County.
"During the altercation, a juvenile male who witnessed the dispute retrieved a firearm and confronted the adult male, who was allegedly standing over the female in a threatening manner," a press release said.
According to investigators, the juvenile ordered the male to stop and leave the residence.
"The adult male then aggressively advanced toward the juvenile, at which point the juvenile fired a single shot," the release said.
The juvenile and adult female were able to safely leave the residence, call 911, and wait for law enforcement. KCSO deputies, assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, responded.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Personnel from Timberlake Fire provided medical treatment at the scene. The male was later transported to Kootenai Health, where he was listed in stable condition.
Deputies said there was an active no-contact order in place between the adult male and adult female.
An investigation continues. Charges are expected pending the suspect’s release from the hospital, the release said.
