Gonzaga, Kentucky discontinue

men's basketball series after four years

Gonzaga and Kentucky jointly announced the discontinuation of their six-game series on Wednesday.

The decision was mutually agreed upon by both programs, to allow each program freedom to reevaluate future scheduling priorities, including conference obligations and nonconference opportunities.

This decision was in the best interest of both programs as the series was set to end with a home and home in Rupp Arena in 2026-27 and the McCarthey Athletic Center in 2027-28.

The original six-game series was announced on Oct. 6, 2022. Gonzaga won the first matchup 88-72 in the Spokane Arena on Nov. 20, 2022. The Zags then won at Rupp Arena 89-85 on Feb. 10, 2024. Kentucky rallied for a 90-89 overtime victory in Seattle on Dec. 7, 2024. This past season, Gonzaga beat the Wildcats in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 5, 94-59.

Additional information on Gonzaga’s 2026-27 schedule will be available at a later date.

Spokane Zephyr women's soccer

folds after two seasons

The Spokane Zephyr FC women's soccer team announced that it will halt operations after the season on Wednesday.

"Over the past two seasons, you've helped bring professional women's soccer to life in Spokane," the club said in a statement on their website. "The energy, belief and support you've shown this club have meant everything to our players and staff. This is not the end of women's soccer in Spokane. We remain committed to the game and to this community, and we will continue exploring ways to ensure women's soccer remains an active and visible part of the Inland Northwest."

Spokane beat Brooklyn in its season finale last Saturday at ONE Spokane Stadium, but failed to advance to the USL Playoffs.
