PREP TRACK & FIELD: Sandpoint Middle School Girls sweep titles at district championship meet

RATHDRUM — Marcela Thompson sprinted to gold medals in the 100-meter dash (13.72), 200-meter dash (28.55) and leaped to a silver medal in the long jump (14 feet, 5.5 inches) as she led the eighth grade Lady Bullpups to a team title at the Large School District Championship held Thursday, May 14 at Lakeland High.

Jane Graham won the 100-meter hurdles (17.44) and Olivia Betz was third in both the 800-meter run (2:37.27) and 1600-meter run (5:45.85) for Sandpoint, which scored 106 points in total. Charli Hall added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:07.98) and Graham, Thompson, Finnley Roark, and Quinlan Bunge ran to a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay (55.95) on the day.

In eighth grade boys action, Jude Cummins picked up a bronze in both the 400-meter dash (1:02.25) and the long jump (14 feet, 11 inches) for Sandpoint, which finished seventh with 39 points.

As for the sixth and seventh grade girls, Sandpoint's Xina Schicker won the 100-meter dash (13.99), the 200-meter dash (28.71), was second in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and third in the long jump (14 feet, 4.5 inches) as she led the Lady Bullpups to a district title. Sylvia Nees won the 400-meter dash (1:04.71) and Lauren Porter grabbed a win in the discus (79 feet, 1 inch) to round out Sandpoint's gold medal tally.

Kerington Forrest recorded a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (14.17), Kaitlyn Erickson finished second in the shot put (29 feet, 7 inches) and third in the discus (71 feet, 3.5 inches), and Avalon Gillis was third in the 800-meter run (2:41.75). Brooklyn Windju, Addison Sweeney, Frankie Slaton, and Forrest raced to second in the 4x100 (55.11) while Juno Lough, Windju, Slaton and Nees registered a silver in the 4x200 (1:58.19) for the Lady Bullpups, which won by 37 points.  

In the sixth and seventh grade boys division, Sandpoint was led by Cameron Porter and Ryan Mills. Porter was second in the discus (86 feet, 8 inches) while Mills was second in the 1600-meter run (5:22.29). SJ Noble, Caleb Drube, Miller Emch, and Tyler Steele combined for a silver medal in the 4x200 relay (1:51.92) for the Bullpups, which placed third as a team with 66 points.
