The Whitefish Theatre Company brings the deliciously dark musical comedy, "Little Shop of Horrors," to the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
At the center of this Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical — which has devoured the hearts of theatergoers for more than 30 years — is Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral assistant who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names Audrey II after his coworker crush. The foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour, as long as he keeps feeding it blood. As the plant’s appetite grows, Seymour is forced to confront how far he’s willing to go for love, success and survival.
With music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, this production features hit songs like “Suddenly Seymour,” “Skid Row (Downtown)” and “Feed Me (Git It).”
Ten local actors make up the cast, including Mikey Winn (Seymour), Cat Carter (Audrey), Henry Elsen (Mr. Mushnik), Joy James (Ronnette), Mekala Button (Crystal), Angie Green (Chiffon), Jhalen Salazar (Dr. Orin Scrivello) and Marcus Wheeler (the ensemble). Voicing Audrey II is David Blair with Ian Wheeler puppeteering.
"This is a monster of a show. Get it? Monster. And everyone gave their all," said Kim Krueger, director and WTC artistic director.
Performances will be held May 21-24, May 28-31 and June 5-6. All shows will be held at 7:30 p.m., except for Sunday matinees on May 24 and 31, which begin at 4 p.m. The O’Shaughnessy Center is located at 1 Central Ave.
Tickets to the May 21 sneak preview performance are $12 for adults and $10 for students and will only be sold at the door. Tickets for remaining performances are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students and can be purchased online at whitefishtheatreco.org, at the box office, or by calling 862-5371.
